A story about bookish

I met Bookish today and it was a lovely lunch on a lovely day. I didn’t know that she was such a fan of Tolkien! I know I’m sounding like a geek here, but when she said that Tolkien was her “comfort reading” it made all warm and fuzzy inside because it is for me as well!

Hooray Bookish for moving to the city! I see many meetings in the future, and I don’t need a palantir to know that! grin

A story about sarumantheevil

Sarumantheevil is SO rad. For many reasons… but the main one?

because she Loves Tolkien.

i don’t mean any ordinary kind of love either. I mean she is the Expert.

I met her for lunch today at a yummy pizza place in Union Square, and we bonded on being two of the very few females we know who adore everything Tolkien.

If Sarumantheevil were to ever visit me, i’d say to her “Speak friend and enter” ;)

Why I want to meet Johnny Depp

Because i’ve been in-crush with him since 21 Jump Street (like all the other Johnny fans I suppose). grin

Why I want to meet Alton Brown

Because with him, no one can ever be a bad cook. All you need to know is a pinch of science, a dash of math, and a pint of will. (ugh, that was too cute even for me, but I’m keeping it. grin).

I think that his method of cooking not only gives us a lovely end product, but also makes us more involved with the entire aspect of cooking. I got myself a salad spinner thanks to him, best $10 investment!

Why I admire John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

The nickname says it all really. Been a fan since I could read his books and have been reading, absorbing, loving and learning new things about all his published works ever since.

There is always the afterlife;)

A story about me

I am sometimes so shy it hurts to be out in public. I have to psych myself to speak to people, say at the bookstore or remember not to look like a deer in the headlights when I am paying for something at Duane Reade. I am usually personable, not being self-promoting here, but it’s like I have to work at it. I guess one of my goals should be to try and be more at ease in the world, but who is really? I think by just getting out there and being part of society is a big step. The weird thing was that in junior high and high school, I was always pretty involved with everyone. I floated from group to group, albeit stuck mainly with the nerdier ones. I was grounded all the time for being on the phone too long (3-way calling man, the way to go). Something happened to screw with my confidence and I wish I could pinpoint it. I am slowly regaining it back, but every step forward is fraught with things that stop the flow of progress. It’s got more to do with me than anyone, and I hope that me trying counts for something. This is where my goal for getting more courage kicks in. grin

How I met Orson Scott Card

I drove, with my friend in tow, to Philly from NY to hear a lecture and have my old battered copy of “Ender’s Game” and my new shiny copy of “Shadow of the Giant” to be signed.

I was in complete “fan-boy” mode and it was wonderful. I only wish I could take his writing classes in North Carolina.

He signed his books for me, and said I was his hero (backstory not included). Needless to say, I would love to meet with him again.

Till the next book signing!

Why I want to meet Eddie Izzard

Because he is fabulous!
